Chestnut Grove is celebrating the
new vintage by launching a brand new corporate identity!
We have retained our famous chestnut tree symbol but have re-designed
our labels to a reflect a simpler, more elegant style.
The new labels will be appearing in shops and on this re-designed
web site shortly, so look out for them as the wine inside the
bottle tastes as good as ever!
Chestnut Grove has just been honoured
at the Australian Hotels Association WA Liquor and Hospitality
Awards, being named as finalists in the Regional WA Wine Sales
Team of the Year category.
These awards recognise quality, service, promotions and new products
in the liquor and hospitality industry as voted by the businesses
who actually sell our product.
We are pleased to say that this years
crop has produced some excellent wines once again. We will shortly
be releasing some new vintages and an exciting, brand new range!

Clear skies with very little overcast,
mild to warm day time temperatures, low pest and disease pressure
featured right through to early February all good indicators of
a promising vintage ahead .However, heavy rain in mid February
followed by extremely hot conditions leading into harvest caused
a compressed intake of early ripening varieties (whites and Pinot
Noir).
Fruit picked at this time showed forward, tropical and confectionary
characters, very up front, attractive and fruity, not simple but
without strong varietal definition.
Following this, a series of cold fronts bringing overcast, drizzle
and cold daytime temperatures, attenuated the intake of fruit
during March and April. These conditions lead to a sharp increase
in disease pressure and silvereye occurrence. Fruit picked during
this time was more variable in quality and flavour intensity,
however showing more typical regional and varietal characters
with earlier parcels being more austere, focused and tightly structured
and later parcels showing generally more weight, body and a sweeter
fruit palate impression.
A weather affected vintage in which timing of harvest had a greater
influence on style than usual. Not to be described as a great
vintage, but one in which enough flavour development occurred
to ensure some outstanding and great wines will emerge as highlights.
2001 Merlot awarded the silver
medal at the International Wine Challenge
A great result for Chestnut Grove
just in from London with our 2001 Merlot awarded the silver medal
at the International Wine Challenge. This is the world's biggest
wine competition with over 9,400 wines tasted and entries submitted
from 35 countries. The wines are tasted and judged over a period
of two weeks. Over 500 tasters are involved in the judging process.
These include Masters of Wine, senior members of the wine trade
in the UK and abroad, and wine makers from across the world.
The Challenge was started in 1983 by Robert Joseph and Charles
Metcalfe, the founders of Wine Magazine so it is a result of the
highest prestige.
We are pleased to announce that Chestnut
Grove has released a brand new range - Tall Timber wines are expressive,
full-flavoured and our salute to the majesty of the old growth
forests that dominate this region.
Our winery is located in the heart of Western Australia's beautiful
south-west. Here the majestic Karri trees dominate the landscape,
as they have for millions of years, driven skyward by the combination
of fertile soil, pristine air and abundant rainfall.
In more recent times, premium wines have begun to emerge from
this magnificent region, carefully crafted by skilled winemakers
harnessing the same powerful elements that created these wonderful
forests. .
Two of Chestnut Grove's brand new
vintages have just scooped medals at the Royal Queensland Show,
marking a winning start to the show season and a winning start
for our new labels!
The 2003 Verdelho and the 2001 Cabernet Merlot will be released
by the winery in the next few weeks but were awarded gold and
bronze respectively at the show.

On 21 November, Manjimup was rocked
with the exclusive appearance of singer Jimmy Barnes as the finale
act for the South West Horticultural and Forestry Expo 2003. We
were delighted when our Tall Timber wines were selected to be
served exclusively at this one and only WA performance, which
provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase our latest releases
and increase the awareness of Manjimup and the surrounding regions.
Concert goers enjoyed Tall Timber wines in the evening whilst
expo visitors sampled all the new release Chestnut Grove vintages
during the day. Jimmy was later presented with a Chestnut Grove
gift pack as a memento of his visit.

We are delighted to announce that
Chestnut Grove's website has been awarded the 'Golden Web Award
2003/2004' by a division of the International Association of
Webmasters and Designers.
This award is in recognition of creativity, integrity and excellence
on the Web.
We are pleased to report that the
2004 vintage is now in full swing! Our winemaking team are working
24 hours a day with fruit intake anticipated to be
twice as high as last year.
The first fruit off the vines was the Pinot Noir for our sparkling
wine on the 6th March. All the whites are now picked, the last
one being our Chardonnay on the 29th March. Next come the reds
with the Merlot and Cabernet grapes expected to be ready at
the end of the second week of April, finishing up with the Shiraz
at the end of that month.
Winemaker Mark Aitken is very happy with the results so far
"I am especially excited about the reds this year"
he says "with perfectly ripened fruit we should see some
marvellous wines"
News from our winemaker is that
the 2004 vintage is complete with all the grapes now off the
vines.
Next step is the bottling process which will commence with the
2004 Verdelho- an event eagerly awaited since the 2003
vintage has now sold out. (If you hurry you might still find
a bottle or two in your local bottle shop).
All new wines will be available for purchase via this web site
when they are ready for release.
Chestnut Grove Selected For Donna

in Australia and overseas so this accolade is a real
honour for Chestnut Grove.
The wines will feature in a 36 page booklet in the food and wine

We are proud to announce that we
have secured exclusive wine sponsorship of the Perth Wildcats

Timber range. Chestnut Grove director Mike Calneggia is very
excited about the partnership: "Chestnut Grove Tall Timber
wines are produced in the Manjimup region which is promoted
in tourism circles as 'tall timber country'; It seemed obvious
to align ourselves with another Tall Timber icon, the Perth
Wildcats. These guys have some very 'tall timber' amongst
them, we just thought it would be good to add some more"
